Augusta Concrete Patios Gravel is the cheapest driveway to install by a wide margin and the only one with an annual maintenance requirement that never ends. Free on-site quote, usually within two working days.

Gravel is a compacted aggregate surface. It drains freely. It can be laid on almost any sub-grade, and it needs regrading and topping up every year or two as material migrates and ruts form.
It also moves. Vehicles push it, rain washes it, and snow clearing removes it. On any slope, gravel travels downhill and has to be brought back.
Gravel and Piedmont clay are a poor combination on any grade, because summer downpours wash the stone downhill and press what is left into the clay.
The honest comparison is over ten years including the regrading, topping up and weed control that gravel needs and concrete does not.
Slope is close to decisive. On a flat drive gravel performs reasonably. On a meaningful grade it washes and needs constant attention.
Practical differences matter more than the money for many people: gravel cannot be shovelled or ploughed cleanly, it tracks into the house and the garage, and it is hard on bare feet and on bicycles.
Gravel remains the right answer for a long rural approach, an overflow area or a temporary surface, where the length makes concrete genuinely uneconomic.
On a short residential driveway the ten year cost gap is much smaller than the install gap suggests. On a two hundred foot rural approach, gravel wins easily and it is not close.
Cheapest to install by a wide margin, and over ten years with regrading the gap against $6–$10 per square foot narrows a lot on a short residential driveway.
Gravel on a slope with no edging is the version that disappoints. Half the material ends up at the bottom within two years and it gets bought twice.
Gravel on Augusta clay with no edging loses half its material in two years, and then it gets bought a second time.

To install, considerably. Over ten years with regrading and topping up, the gap narrows a lot on a short driveway.
Poorly. It washes downhill and needs constant regrading. Concrete or asphalt is the better answer on a grade.
A long rural approach, an overflow area, or a temporary surface. Length is what makes it win.
